Chunk five!
The last part has Barbie walking around and discovering that there is no way out of this barrier so this chapter starts with Barbie heading back to town. He passes by a diner he used to work for before leaving town and sees the TV blaring with new stations and nation wide broadcasts of their small town. Helicopters and army officials are parked outside the barrier while new stations and bystanders are watching for new discoveries about the barrier. Barbie immediately goes back to work for his old boss, Rose, and what seems like a great friend. More is revealed on why he had to leave and how he did horrible things to Jim Rennie and his son Junior.
When the night shift ends Rose and him go talk about why Barbie is still in town. Conversation moves to how the town and especially the diner is going to run off just gasoline and generators. Barbie brings up how they use the most energy and asks how they are going to keep things running. This brings up a good point with the whole town and the crew at the diner turn everything off to save energy. This makes me think of what the whole town will do. The two of them talk about shutting down the diner when no one is there to save energy and buying up all the meat from the supermarket in the morning. Yet this makes me think if Stephen King thought about the craze some people will go through when they think there will be nothing. During the first few months of lock down in my own town, there was a craze about people buying tons of meat and household necessities, so I wonder if Stephen King predicted this.
Junior finally wakes up from his migraine and murderer induced nap. Everything is coming back to him about murdering a girl in her house, which he never cleaned up the body either. He does a load of laundry and notices that his dad isn't home yet. He steals money from his dad’s safe and drives to Angie's house. Junior still doesn't know about the dome being dropped on them and doesn't understand why the power is still out. He starts cleaning up the blood and body when another person enters the house. Angie's best friend Dodee enters the house crying because her mother has died from the dome. I think her mother was the one on the plane getting a flying lesson from the first chapter. However when she is looking for her friend she finds Junior who promptly begins strangling her. King is really trying to paint Barbie as the guy who needs to leave town but I am interested to see what he even did. Junior is the one who needs to leave town now and he still doesn't even know about the whole dome situation either!
