Chunk Four UTD

 Clustermug

Jim Rennie is driving up to the crash sites. He's acting as a rude authority and when another person is on the phone with homeland security, he takes the phone and hangs up. If this was real that would be horrible and I would be so mad no matter who it was. Jim doesn't want to hear anyones side and claims the truck and the airplane were accidents. Nothing out of the ordinary, he says and wants to keep the town clear of negative new reports. Even when proven wrong he doesn't let go and moves the conversation along. He doesn't believe it until another woman runs into the barrier and gets a nosebleed. Why the noses? Shouldn't something else get hit before your face? I guess everyone in Chester mill has a large nose.

There is more information about the dome being told in the next few paragraphs and hoe Big Jim is starting to understand its more than just a crash scene. Like how only some water is getting through, or how there is almost like an electricity current surrounding the barrier. Duke the police chief from the last chapter gets too close to the dome's barrier and his pacemaker explodes. One thing I'm struggling with is how Stephen King will introduce a lot of characters and then almost immediately kill them off. I understand that this is world building and details on how the dome is just killing everyone but it is starting to get annoying. As a person who's trying to focus on this as an assignment, it's hard to figure out which person is important and to focus on. I have this draft blog open while I am reading and so there are moments where I will write down details that I just have to erase or rewrite because the characters die in the next paragraph. If I was just reading this to enjoy it I bet I would have a better time.

Halfway through the chunk of Clustermug we are introduced to the Razors, a group of skateboarders that are seen as an outcast group. I adore these characters. From just the small ending of this chapter there are a lot of good interactions between them. They end all their sentences with “dude” and call things they think are cool “toxic”. One is getting stitches in a hospital and there's more information about what is going on inside the town. A lot of the doctors and nurses are speaking like the kids as well and it makes me laugh. I love the addition of these characters. The doctors rush to the crash sites in an ambulance and watch as the news helicopter crashes into the dome.

It ends with the two from earlier walking around the perimeter of the dome. Barbie and the man split up and the other goes to call homeland security again so Barbie is alone walking the path. He comes across more people doing the same thing and determines that they are cut off from the outside world.

This chapter was nice because the readers are able to have more information about Chester's Mill’s residents. It's a very small town so they all know each other and if a name was muttered whoever the main character was of this chapter knew exactly who they were. It gives a lot of important information and world building to who is inside the dome.
